This event will be held at Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel in the Conference and Banquet rooms on September 20, 2008. We will be conducting four workshops between 10am and 6pm. Setup time is 9am with registration beginning at 9:30am. The conference rooms hold 75 people and we will be providing lunch at an additional charge on a limited basis since the banquet room only holds 125 people. Speakers and entertainment during lunch. The workshop topics will be as follows:
- Workshops will be on the Civil Rights Movement, the Children’s March, Rosa Parks, and the meaning of Juneteenth.
- Full handouts will be given at each of the workshops. They will watch the movie and then complete the unit studies that go with it.
- We will also be including copies of our Juneteenth United 2007/08 event booklet which contains African American history tidbits.
- We will be scheduling two topics in the morning and two topics in the afternoon session with a lunch break that will be either on your own or you may eat lunch at the hotel. Participation in each workshop is $15 and the lunch at the hotel is $20. It is best to purchase your lunch ticket in advance to be assured of a place at the table. High school students participating in these workshops will attain valuable information which can be used to begin preparatory study for the Black History Bowl and all others will get information on the African American people that they did not have before. Attendees will also have the opportunity to give input on the formation of the annual Juneteenth Celebration 2009. They will be encouraged to further their knowledge by putting together information on their own about African American history which will be printed in our booklet and handed out at the Juneteenth event in 2009.
